I think it would be fantastic to have eyeliner on all the time and my lips subtly outlined, but I am a little bit of a chicken about it. I am not going to have just any ol’ Joe come at my face with ink, so I started my research. Here are some things to know about permanent makeup.
Things To Know About Permanent Makeup
The most common types are eyebrows, lips, cheeks and eyelids. And there is more:
1. You will need to go in again for touch-ups 6 weeks later. Some people don’t know this. 6 weeks. Plan on it.
2. Be sure your makeup artist uses quality pigment. Some pigments (usually iron oxides) can fade to pinks, peaches and even purple. That’s not good, people. Be sure that they use quality pigments so that when it fades, it fades a natural color.
3. There are 2 types of techniques. Hand Tap lasts 1-3 years and Rotary Pen lasts 8 years.
4. Be sure to see your makeup artists before and after pictures. Request to see pictures from after the healing process to get the full effect of the job that they did. Pictures can be deceiving if you see them before the person has healed all the way.
5. Know your makeup artists limits. Some artists are more willing to connect your eyeliner, some aren’t. You may also want to have your lips filled in or blended from the lip liner. Be sure that this is something that your artist can skillfully do.
Bonus Tip: If you getting your eyebrows done, make sure you ask for an ‘Eyebrow Design’ appointment. It should be separate from your consultation. The technician will go over different shapes and colors, and that’s when you can decide what the best eyebrow design for your face will be. If you don’t totally agree with how the permanent makeup procedure looks while drawn on, keep working with the technician until you are completely satisfied with the design. Hi there! I saw a pin to this and just wanted to add my two cents since I have been immersed in the permanent makeup world for over ten years 🙂 Numbers 2 and 3 are common misconceptions when it comes to permanent makeup. Iron oxide pigments tend to fade truer than other pigments that are not iron oxide, which may turn blue, green, and purple/pink. Iron oxide pigments are also the safest to use in the body. As far as the staying power of the hand method vs machine method goes it all depends on the technician and not the method they use; that’s why tip number 4 is super important!! Hope I helped some! 🙂

Do you know someone that uses iron oxide and is very good with eyebrows? Someone you would recommend to your very best friend or family?

Hi Erica, why is it important to have touch ups done? Are they really just filling in gaps or do they need to go over the whole area again?

Érica , thanks for the tips. I do have 1 question for you, see, I had my eyebrows done way before all this new trend. I was only 17yrs old. Hid from my parents for months. Like ya, would see them, but never gave them a full view. I am now 40yrs old. However, when I had them done @ 17yrs old, they lasted only a good full 2 years, so the tech, touched them up for me, because she had stated to anyone who went there that it would last at least 10yrs, but a touch up in like 4 or was it 5yrs would be needed. (A a discount of course). So when I went back to her, she remembered me right away, because I had returned to her with friends & even my sisterinlaw, whom had the lips, eyeliner & eyebrows done. Anywho, ya, it lasted only 2yrs. She retouched for free & picked a darker color. But I said screw that, never doing that again. Now at age 40yrs. I have almost no proof of the tattoo, but for a long time, I had to live with a bunch of red tattoo lines, that my eye bras could never cover. Still have some on the out line at the beginning & at the very end where she created like a line the shape of the ending of my eyebrow. Can you tell me, what she may have done wrong? Only ask bc of your years of experience. TYIA
