In just a few short hours I’m going to be boarding a plane to visit Eric, my fiance, in Houston for the weekend. I’m over the moon excited because I haven’t seen him since the beginning of June, and lucky for me I’ve traveled enough to have packing down to an art.
I have a set list of items that I always pack with me and I figured I might as well share them with all of you. But before we dive into the essentials, let me tell you somethings that I personally think are just as important as packing for the trip.
I do all of my laundry and I have my house clean. It might not be spotless, but I love knowing that I can come home to minimal amounts of housework because I took the time to do it before I left. I also clean all of my makeup brushes. Traveling already messes with your skin, don’t let dirty makeup brushes add to that. I love using Cinema Secrets to quickly and effectively clean my brushes.
So let’s talk about the so obvious that “I know you know all of this already” items. I have a theory. Because these things are so obvious, we never really remember them. So when you are packing don’t forget your: toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, chargers, wallet/id, etc. I think part of why this is so hard, we need these things in the morning so you can’t pre-pack it. Put a post-it on the door as a reminder to grab it before you go.
For the plane I always bring my entertainment with me. That means my iPad with some shows from Netfix downloaded so I don’t have to use wifi, my iPod, and good headphones. I recently bought these headphones off of Amazon for only $22 and I actually am really happy with the sound. They are the great travel headphones because if something happens to them, you’re not sad that you lost your expensive headphones.
As far as beauty products go, I do my best to take as few items as possible. I don’t like having things spread out across the hotel bathroom and you’re left wondering if you packed it all up at the end of the trip. I pack Maskcara palettes (one for foundation, one for eyes) for complete ease of space! Two small palettes, the large being the size of my hand, and my eyes and face (minus mascara) are completely taken care of. If you need lipstick I recommend a long lasting brand. I love LipSense but you do what works best for you. Only take lipstick if you absolutely need it (weddings, work functions, etc). I promise you that when I was in Thailand and Cambodia I hardly wore any makeup, and I’m glad I didn’t take up any space with lipstick. Yes lipstick is small, but you should really get in the habit of packing as light as you can. At the end of the night and it’s time to wash my face I have a one ounce bottle of Crude Everything Oil and pull cloths. Crude got smart though, and they have made disposable cloths so If you don’t want to pack back some dirty washcloths, try using the disposable ones!
Always take a look at the travel section of your favorite store (hello Target!!). I take my own shampoo and conditioner because hotels never have good ones. You can either buy the travel sizes of different brands available or you can buy the containers and fill them with what you have at home. Just remember that you are only taking a carry on, all liquids have to be 3 oz or smaller and all have to fit in a Ziploc sized bag. I finally invested in a permanent bag for my carry on liquids and it’s nice because I keep things in it until I travel next, it’s always packed! I always, always, always pack tampons. Maybe it’s because my cycle is famous for being inconsistent, but travel messes with everyone’s body in one way or another. I would rather be prepared and not need them vs needing them and doing your best to go out of your way to find them.
No matter where you are going, make sure you’re safe and you have fun!!!!
