5 Commonly Believed Myths About Strengthening Your Nails

February 17, 2013 by Haley Leave a Comment

Myth 5:

I have heard many people say that you nails “need to breath”. Meaning, that we should take a break from wearing cosmetics on our nails so that they can get oxygen. Our nails are made from dead skin cells, so they don’t have the ability to get oxygen from outside. Any oxygen they receive is from the blood stream. Image from American Spa.

5 Commonly Believed Myths About Strenghtening Your Nails

Here are a few other things that people *swear by* to help their nails. While these are not scientific, they are coming from humans.  Humans with nails that have tried them.  And… who knows?  Maybe they work.

Massage nail beds (mmmm..?)

Apply nail strengthening agent

Paint inside of nail with clear polish to keep it strong

Drink lots of water (you should be anyway!)

Groom regularly by filing, clipping
